After the Pumpkin Patches Close, Brentwood's Farms Go Back to Selling Groceries

Smith Family Farm opens its barnyard and pumpkin patch for activities during October only. Its fruit stand runs a much longer season, from the beginning of June to the end of November, according to the farm's own FAQ. The homepage puts it a little later, saying the stand stays open daily "through the beginning of December." Either way, the corn mazes and hayrides cover about five weeks of a year that runs six months or more.

So the end of pumpkin season on November 1 doesn't close the farms. They stop being a weekend outing and go back to selling produce. Persimmons, citrus, walnuts and winter greens fill the November and December stretch, and fresh-cut firs come in at Thanksgiving. Here's where each of those can be found, and when.

Three weekends left of the October version

Two farms carry most of Brentwood's pumpkin traffic, and they close a day apart.

Three Nunns Farm at 550 Walnut Blvd. is open daily from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. through Oct. 31, 2026, according to a September 2026 family guide from 510 Families. The same guide lists $15 admission, which covers a tractor ride, two corn mazes and a 5-pound pumpkin credit. Other attractions cost extra.

Smith Family Farm at 4350 Sellers Ave. lists its Pumpkin Harvest on its current homepage as running Sept. 26 to Nov. 1, daily from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Admission includes live entertainment, animal encounters, a children's corn maze, the gardens and one pumpkin from the patch per person. The farm calls itself "Brentwood's favorite pumpkin patch for 40 years." The weekend U-pick pomegranate orchard is open only in October, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturdays and Sundays. From today, that leaves the weekends of Oct. 17–18 and Oct. 24–25, plus Saturday, Oct. 31, as the last October day to pick.

The middle weekend shares a Saturday with downtown. The Brentwood Chamber lists Hometown Halloween: Heroes vs. Villains for Saturday, Oct. 24, from 4 to 8 p.m. Trick-or-treating is free along Oak Street, First Street and Brentwood Boulevard, in the area from Third Street to Diablo Way and Chestnut to Maple. Smith's patch closes at 5 p.m. and downtown trick-or-treating starts at 4, so families can do the patch in the afternoon and still get downtown before dark.

What the stand shelves turn into

Pumpkins are only part of what the Sellers Avenue stand sells right now. Smith's current list includes tomatoes, Brentwood corn, peppers and chiles, apples, pomegranates, fall squash, pears, lemons, limes, avocados, sweet potatoes and honey. The same list marks persimmons as coming soon.

Smith's Harvest Time in Brentwood listing also names persimmons and citrus among the farm's produce. As the pumpkin weeks end, the crops on the shelves move from summer stone fruit and tomatoes to fruit that ripens in the cold.

Hours depend on which listing you read. The farm's homepage says the stand is open daily from 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., opening 30 minutes before the Pumpkin Harvest and closing 30 minutes after. The Harvest Time listing gives 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. The farm's own page is the better guide. Its "end of November" and "beginning of December" wording means the last week of the season is worth confirming before you drive out.

The barnyard and country store stay open through the holiday season. The gardens, the beehives and the replica Miwok village close for winter.

Walnut Boulevard and Apricot Way after the corn mazes

Smith isn't the only farm still selling after Nov. 1, but most of Brentwood's well-known farm names don't carry over. Moffatt Ranch's posted season runs from June to mid-August. Bacchini's usually operates in May and June. Three Nunns ends its fall season at Halloween. A few places are set up for the colder months.

The Urban Edge Farm at 2017 Walnut Blvd. is an organic farm with an on-site store. Its Harvest Time profile lists winter vegetables including kale, beets, lettuce, mustard, radishes, chard, turnips, broccoli and cabbage, and an orchard with citrus and persimmons. The listed store hours are Monday through Saturday from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Sundays and holidays from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. The listing doesn't give a dated 2026 holiday schedule, so call before planning a Thanksgiving-week trip.

Gursky Ranch Country Store at 1921 Apricot Way covers the pantry side of the season. Its Harvest Time profile lists it as open year-round, Tuesday through Sunday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. It sells dried fruit, walnuts, pistachios, almonds and other nuts, plus local honey and olive oil. That profile was published in 2023, so check current holiday hours before counting on it for baking supplies.

Between them, these two stores cover most of a November kitchen. One has greens and citrus. The other has nuts and dried fruit. Neither has anything to do with pumpkin season.

Saturday on First Street keeps going

The Brentwood Farmers' Market at 655 First St. is the one farm outlet in town that's open every week of the year. The Pacific Coast Farmers' Market Association, which runs it in partnership with the City of Brentwood, lists it on its market page as open Saturdays, year-round. The state's certified farmers' market roster, current as of Oct. 1, 2026, also shows a Saturday, year-round schedule.

The hours are less certain. PCFMA and the state list 8 a.m. to noon. PCFMA also says that 8-to-noon schedule started on April 4, 2026, as its spring and summer hours. The Chamber's market listing says fall and winter hours in November are 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Because of that, check PCFMA's page before the first Saturday in November.

Several farms on PCFMA's Brentwood producer list are marked as year-round vendors and grow crops that peak right now:

Vendor Home base Listed crops worth watching for
Allard Farms Westley Persimmons, among others
Lujan Farm Hughson Citrus and oranges, among others
Souther Walnuts Acampo Walnuts

These are the crops each farm grows, not a promise of what will be on the table any given Saturday. They do show the market's winter stock shifting to the same fruit and nuts the farm stands carry.

Thanksgiving week brings the trees

The last change of the season happens on Sellers Avenue again. Smith Family Farm says its Christmas tree lot and Country Store open the week of Thanksgiving and stay open until the week before Christmas. The farm's current homepage still lists the opening day as "TBA." An older date range is still posted on the farm's Harvest Time listing, but those weekdays match last year's calendar. Smith's own site is the place to find this year's date.

According to the farm's Christmas tree page, the lot carries Douglas and Noble firs, holiday greenery and Country Store goods. Listed hours are noon to 6 p.m. Monday through Thursday, 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Fridays, and 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. on weekends. Santa visits on weekends from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. and from 2 to 4 p.m. Thanksgiving falls on Nov. 26 this year, so the lot's first weekend lines up with the Chamber's 44th Annual Holiday Parade. The theme is "Brentwood Express," and the parade runs downtown on Saturday, Nov. 28, from 5 to 7 p.m. That same Saturday morning, the farmers' market is open on First Street.

Here's the calendar from today through the end of the season:

  1. Oct. 17–18 and Oct. 24–25: Pumpkin patches open daily at both farms. Pomegranate U-pick runs at Smith on weekends, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
  2. Saturday, Oct. 24: Hometown Halloween downtown, 4 to 8 p.m.
  3. Saturday, Oct. 31: Last day at Three Nunns and the last October day for pomegranate U-pick at Smith.
  4. Sunday, Nov. 1: Last day of Smith's Pumpkin Harvest.
  5. Every Saturday in November: Brentwood Farmers' Market at 655 First St. Check PCFMA for the winter hours.
  6. Week of Nov. 23: Smith's Christmas tree lot and Country Store are expected to open. The exact date is still TBA.
  7. Saturday, Nov. 28: Farmers' market in the morning, Holiday Parade from 5 to 7 p.m.
  8. Late November into early December: Smith's fruit stand closes for the year.
